Fourteen US Museum Educators to Visit China for Professional Exchange of Ideas

ARLINGTON, VA–A team of 14 education specialists from US museums will visit China Nov. 29 – Dec. 5 to meet with their counterparts from Chinese museums in a first-of-its-kind program titled, “Connection—Engagement: A US-China Museum Education Forum.”
Presented by the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing and the American Alliance of Museums, the program will focus on professional exchange for museum educators. With a focus on modern and contemporary art, the forum will bring the US educators together with 14 educators from Chinese museums for panel presentations, roundtable discussions and a study tour of museums and artists’ studios in Beijing and Shanghai. Another 150-200 of China’s museum educators will be invited to join the convening as audience members and take part in question-and-answer sessions and informal conversation.

“The Central Academy of Fine Arts looks forward to establishing long-term and in-depth collaboration with the American Alliance of Museums through Connection-Engagement: A US-China Museum Education Conference,” said Yu Ding, Dean of the Institute of Arts Administration and Education at CAFA. “We hope to improve communication and exchange with our American colleagues, to share our vision of professional development, management experience, and international strategies for museums today. Museum education in China expects to advance theoretical research and a more solid infrastructure in order to make its contribution to the globalization of Chinese museum and cultural industries.”

About the Central Academy of Fine Arts Art Museum:

The Central Academy of Fine Arts, located in Beijing, is an academy where culture, history, and art are flourishing, which enjoys the best art resources of the world. CAFA, the only art academy of higher learning directly under the Ministry of Education, was founded in April 1950. Under the umbrella of CAFA, there are six schools and colleges. They are School of Fine Art, School of Chinese Painting, School of Design, School of Architecture, School of Humanities, College of City Design as well as School of Continuing Education and the Affiliated High School of Fine Art.

Established in 1953, the CAFA Art Museum in Beijing is one of the top ten art museums in China and has become an important institution for contemporary art. With the completion and use of a new building in 2008, the Museum organizes various exhibitions and academic activities based on the academic research of CAFA to make it a platform for the exchange of Chinese and foreign art, as well as to provide a space for visits, study and exhibition to CAFA faculty and students, the public, and domestic and foreign artists.
