Happy Birthday MAP! Has Your Museum Benefited from MAP?

Share the Impact of MAP with your Members of Congress!

Today, the Museum Assessment Program (MAP) celebrates 30 years of helping museums serve the public, and AAM has developed an easy way for you to show your appreciation and support for this important federal grant program.

AAM has made it simple, with an online template that makes it easy to send a personalized letter to Congress about how MAP has helped your museum. Please take a moment to share your story with your members of Congress:

"With over 4,200 participating museums since 1981, there are literally thousands of stories of how MAP has helped museums better serve their communities," said AAM President Ford W. Bell . "It is especially important in this budget-cutting environment that Congress hear from constituents about the importance of MAP."

MAP grants are funded through the National Leadership Grant program for museums within the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Office of Museum Services. The program is administered through a cooperative agreement between AAM and IMLS. We celebrate MAP's 30 th anniversary this month because on June 22, 1981 U.S. Secretary of Education Terrel Bell approved a regulation that legally authorized the Institute of Museum Services (the pre-cursor to IMLS) to make grants to museums taking part in MAP.
