International Partnerships Among Museums
2003-2005 Cycle

Arrange Airline Travel

FLY AMERICA ACT. All IPAM partnerships funded by the U.S. U.S. Department of State are required to comply with the Federal Fly America Act. The Fly America Act requires that all persons traveling on U.S. Government funds use coach class service on U.S. carriers where and when available, or on non-U.S. carriers that hold code-share agreements with U.S. carriers. If neither is available, or if taking a U.S. carrier would significantly lengthen the trip and introduce delays, travelers are permitted to use foreign carriers however a U.S. carrier is still required for the longest leg of the flight. The U.S. Department of State will not reimburse any transportation costs for which a foreign carrier service was improperly used.

IPAM participants should contact IPAM staff a minimum of three months prior to the desired dates of travel. Summer months are the busiest time for international travel, so participants should begin this process early to ensure desired dates.

IPAM staff must seek approval of the proposed dates from the CAO/PAO at the U.S. embassy/consulate in the host country and confirm the dates with the traveler's partner. Upon approval, IPAM staff will convey the desired itinerary to the IPAM travel agent.

IPAM staff or the travel agent will contact the participant to confirm the itinerary prior to ticketing.
