About ICOM

Founded in 1946, International Council of Museums (ICOM) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that is dedicated to the improvement and advancement of the world's museums and the museum profession as well as the preservation of cultural heritage. ICOM has about 30,000 members in 137 countries and territories. The important work of ICOM is carried out through a network of 117 national committees and 31 international committees dedicated to various museum specialities, and affiliated and regional organizations. ICOM's governing body is the Secretariat, located at at UNESCO House in Paris, France.
