MAP Advisory Committee

The MAP Advisory Committee reviews and gives advice regarding:

  • Strategic direction of the program
  • Current needs in the field
  • Marketing
  • Funding

The Advisory Committee was established under the terms of a Cooperative Agreement between AAM and the Institute of Museum and Library Services that defines the structure of the MAP program. AAM appoints at least 6 members to the committee, and IMLS identifies a National Museum Services Board representative to attend committee meetings.

The Advisory Committee members are chosen to represent a broad cross-section of the geographic and topic-specific issues of the community served by MAP. The Advisory Committee typically meets twice per year.

MAP Surveyors

Peer reviewers who work with the Museum Assessment Program are called Surveyors. Over 800 museum professionals work on behalf of AAM as Surveyors. They hold professional-level positions at their home museums and participate in day-to-day operations of their institutions. Most have at least 5 years experience in museum administration.
