Integrated Pest Management

Integrated Pest Management is the practice of monitoring and managing pest and environmental data to prevent pest damage to collections and cultural heritage. The following resources were compiled from organizations throughout the nonprofit and museum sector. AAM reviewed and approved each one based on the organization’s authority and expertise and the resource’s usefulness related to the topic. Clicking the links below will take you off the AAM website.

Integrated Pest Management

The Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) has a technical leaflet on integrated pest management. It outlines non-chemical strategies for preventing and managing pest infestation, such as housekeeping, processing incoming collections, and monitoring activity. It includes a lengthy bibliography and lists sources for supplies and services.

Museum Pests

MuseumPests is maintained by the Integrated Pest Management Working Group, a group of collection managers, conservators, and other professionals interested in integrated pest management in museums. The site offers a free pest management program (to organize pest observation data and present that data in graph and/or report format); a list of resources on topics such as pest identification, professional societies, and pest control companies; fact sheets; and PestList, an email discussion group.
