The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) answers FAQs about its advertising rules. Topics include truth-in-advertising, contests and sweepstakes, the Telemarketing Sales Rule, marketing and selling on the Internet, mail order marketing, advertising aimed at children, and consumer privacy online. The site offers assistance with compliance and has links to the full text of the rules.
The National Association of Attorneys General maintains contact information for the attorney general in each state. Museums interested in raffles and sweepstake-type promotions should check with the attorney general’s office in each state in which they plan to advertise for laws concerning disclosure and licensing.
