Center for the Future of Museums releases highly anticipated annual forecasting report
Washington, DC—The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) releases TrendsWatch 2015 today, an annual report that summarizes museum trends identified through research conducted by the Center for the Future of Museums (CFM). Established as a resource for the museum field, the fourth edition of TrendsWatch is free to the public and available for download online.
“TrendsWatch 2015 highlights six trends that CFM’s staff and advisors believe are highly significant to museums and their communities, based on our scanning and analysis over the past year,” said CFM Founding Director Elizabeth Merritt. “For each trend, I provide a brief summary, list examples of how the trend is playing out in the world, comment on the trend’s significance to society and to museums specifically, and suggest ways that museums might respond.”
The 2015 trends include:
- The “Open” Economy: filling the data pipeline
- Ethical Everything: managing the moral marketplace
- It’s Personal: one size does not fit all
- A Rising Tide: the changing landscape of risk
- Wearable Tech: when “bring your own device” means shirt and shoes
- Slooow: better a tortoise than a hare
