FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 27, 2016
ARLINGTON, VA – The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) has announced that they will open the application process on July 1 for the 2017 class of the Small Museums Accreditation Academy.
The Academy is a year-long readiness program that makes museum standards, assessment programs, and accreditation more accessible to America’s small museums. It is a guided online experience with live webinars and collaborative activities for museum staff and governing authority members. The program is aimed at museums that have five or fewer staff and have accreditation as a goal. At the end of the program, a museum will emerge with a stronger culture of excellence and will be poised to apply for accreditation.
The Academy launched in February 2016. In just a few short months, the staff and governing authority members of the 10 participating museums have attended webinars, pored over related resources, and discussed the strengths and weaknesses of their organizations.
The application deadline for the 2017 Academy cohort is September 30, 2016. Ten applicants will be selected and notified of their acceptance into the Academy by December 2016 and will begin the program in February 2017. More information about the Academy’s eligibility requirements and process is available on the AAM website.
