Museum Advocate Stephen White, Vice President of External Affairs, Center of Science and Industry (COSI), speaks about the powerful role of museums in shaping their communities, museums’ unique ability to deliver opportunities to communities, and the critical need to advocate for museums “collectively, with one voice.”
Transcript
Stephen White: I’m proud to be able to represent museums and science centers, to advocate on behalf of the critical role and quite frankly the necessary role that they play in providing our communities with the tools and the resources, whether it be science, technology, engineering, arts, or mathematics.
Those are the industries and those are the career fields of the future and museums play a unique role in delivering those opportunities to our communities.
And that’s one of the reasons why we’re here today … to reach out to our congressional leaders collectively, with one voice, to advocate for the fact that science centers and museums play a critical role in shaping our communities.
This visit is really critical. You not only have the opportunity to engage with your colleagues from across the country, but also those colleagues that are in your own state. So that way we’re not focused simply as one institution, but we’re all working together toward a common goal. It’s all about engaging, inspiring, and transforming those lives.
That’s where the passion comes from.
