Advocacy Alert – January 16, 2020
Have Your Voice Heard in 2020
There’s still time for you to join the collective movement of museum advocates who come together each year to assert the critical value of museums at Museums Advocacy Day, Feb. 24-25 in Washington, D.C. Together we have defeated multiple and ongoing attempts to eliminate IMLS, NEA, and NEH, and fought for and won increased funding for museum programs at IMLS, including an historic $3.8 million increase last year, as well as $7.3 million increases for each, NEA and NEH.
With Congressional elections just months away, this is a critical time for you to use your voice and share your stories of how museums impact your life and your community.

Exciting IMLS Update – U.S. Senate Confirms Crosby Kemper III as Director of IMLS
On January 9, the U.S. Senate confirmed Crosby Kemper III to be the next director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Kemper will be stepping down as Director of the Kansas City Public Library in Missouri. He was recommended by Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO), who is chairman of the Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee which funds IMLS and nominated by the president in November.
The Alliance’s museum colleagues in Missouri and beyond are enthusiastic about his nomination as he also has significant museum experience. The Alliance encouraged Kemper’s swift confirmation and looks forward to its continued partnership with IMLS. Kemper replaces Kathryn Matthew whose term expired in September.
