Allegations of Unprofessional Practices at AAM-Accredited Museums
The Accreditation Commission requires accredited museums to undergo periodic reaccreditation reviews to ensure they continue to meet fieldwide standards and ethics. However, the Commission may act on allegations of unprofessional practice brought to its attention by an outside party or initiate its own inquiry based on information acquired from various sources, at any time.
This process is guided by these two policies:
Allegations of Unprofessional Practices Policy
If you have serious concerns about the professional practices at an accredited institution:
-
- Read the above policies carefully.
- Review both The Framework for Museum Excellence and the Core Standards for Museums.
- If you feel your concerns fall within the Accreditation Commission’s purview and are interested in the possibility of filing a formal allegation, email the Accreditation Program (accreditation@aam-us.org) with a brief summary of the situation. Staff will advise you on the appropriate next steps.
